Alternate Payment Methods

Paying through the website is, by far, the fastest way for your payment to be recorded in the database on the website, better ensures that we have your correct name, address and email information and saves time for our volunteer staff.

However, we understand that we've had some issues getting the new website membership process running smoothly since its implementation in November 2017 and although we've improved it and gotten rid of the kinks (we think!), some may wish to use a different method to send payment.  The alternative methods below may be used but please allow up to four weeks for your payment to be registered and membership record updated.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

"I don't have a PayPal account and I don't want one. Can't I pay another way?"

You do NOT need a PayPal account to use this PayPal payment gateway.  It gives you the OPTION to create/log into a PayPal account but it does not require it nor will you receive any mail from PayPal as a result of using this gateway.  We use PayPal exclusively for online payments because it is very secure -- credit card information never touches our website -- and we are not charged monthly fees for a standard merchant account.  If you still don't want to pay this way, you may still mail your payment to us but remember, it must be in U.S. funds.

"I live in Great Britain and have had an auto-renewal using Barclay's Bank for years.  I'd like to continue using that."

We can no longer support automatic renewals in this way anymore.  For years, the HBS had membership rates listed in U.S. Dollars, Pounds and Euros which were not updated each year for changing exchange rates.  Over time, our European members were paying up to 20% less in the U.S. Dollars equivalent than U.S. members.  The Journal is printed in and mailed from the U.S. so the HBS lost hundreds of dollars over several years.  To remedy this, we looked at how similar international organizations operate and found that they pick one currency to price the memberships in.  With the ease of online payments now, it is now easy to make international payments, especially with PayPal and its near global scope.

If you are still using Barclay's for auto-payments, you should be receiving an email with information for 2019 membership options.
